Dr Hala Asslan is an art historian, archaeologist and researcher at the Syrian Virtual University. During her stay, she will conduct research in collaboration with Professor Marina Ortrud Hertrampf, Chair of Romance Literature and Culture with a focus on France. Her research project, Bridging Shores: Levantine Intellectual Diaspora and Cultural Dialogue with Europe, focuses on the cultural and intellectual contributions of members of the Levantine diaspora in Europe and their role in fostering dialogue between the Arab East and Europe since the mid-twentieth century. The project examines how exile has shaped literary production and intellectual discourse, and how exiled intellectuals have contributed to the construction of transnational identities and the reshaping of Western perceptions of the East. As a central case study, Dr Asslan examines the Syrian poet Adonis, his long-standing residence in Paris, and his influence on French cultural life.
Dr Jaume Llorca Galiana is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Commercial Law at the University of Alicante, Spain. During his research stay, he will be hosted by Professor Kai von Lewinski, Chair of Public Law, Media and Information Law, at the University of Passau. His project, Editorial content and commercial communication in the digital environment: Regulatory gaps and competitive distortions under European law, examines the legal challenges arising from the increasing convergence of editorial content and commercial communication on digital platforms. It explores whether the existing European framework in the fields of media, advertising and platform law provides adequate instruments to distinguish editorial content from advertising in the digital environment. Particular attention is given to the identifiability of advertising and the competitive balance among providers.
Through their research stays, Dr Asslan and Dr Llorca Galiana bring different academic perspectives to the interdisciplinary exchange at the University of Passau and further strengthen PICAIS's international research network.
