Prof. Germano Glufke Reis (Federal University of Parana, Brazil) conducted research as a PICAIS Fellow from September to October 2023 and from March to April 2024 in the research group “Bioeconomy Economics,” led by Dr. Terese Venus. The topic of his project was: “Disruptive innovation and ‘hybrid’ products: an economic perspective on the disruptive potential of different forms of cultivated (cell-based) meats.”
During his research stay, Prof. Reis collaborated closely with the Bioeconomy Economics group, resulting in a co-authored article with Dr. Terese E. Venus, titled “Promises and uncertainties in the cultivated proteins market: Perspectives from Germany and Brazil”, now published in the journal Food Policy. The paper highlights the interdisciplinary insights generated through his PICAIS-supported work on alternative proteins and future food systems. It highlights opportunities and uncertainties in the growing market for cultivated proteins from both German and Brazilian perspectives and provides valuable insights for research, policy and practice.
