2- 26 March 2026, Central Library of University of Passau
At the heart of the program is the exhibition "Ceija Stojka: Say Yes to Life - Dreams, Hope, Utopias" on view from "March 2-26, 2026 in the foyer of the Central Library at the University of Passau. The exhibition is dedicated to the work of the Austrian Romni writer, artist, and Samudaripen (Romani Holocaust) survivor Ceija Stojka (1933-2013) and presents original works, notebooks, and texts for the first time in Passau, Germany, in a multilingual exhibition. At the opening on March 5 at 6:00 p.m., the band Amenza Ketane, featuring Hojda Stojka, Christian Hinterhauser, and Santino Stojka, will perform, and Nuna Stojka will read from Ceija Stojka's works. The exhibition is complemented by an interactive workshop on hope and resilience on March 4 from 2:00-4:00 p.m., lead by Nuna Stojka and Carina Kurta; an academic colloquium on March 6 and 7 on "Dreams, Hopes, and Utopias in Literature, Film, and Art of Roma and Sinti in Europa" and a musical and literary evening on March 6 at 19:00 with the French Romani writer, performer, and flamenco guitarist Miguel Haler.
This event series challenges persistent stereotypes and highlights the richness, diversity, and creative strength of cultural expression by Roma and Sinti. It contributes to education on diversity and tolerance while raising awareness of anti-Roma racism and intersectional discrimination.
All events are open to the public and free of charge. We warmly welcome students, scholars, members of the press, and the wider community to join us in fostering dialogue, remembrance, and hope through art and scholarship.
