Daniel J. Henderson is Professor of Economics and the J. Weldon and Delores Cole Faculty Fellow in the Department of Economics, Finance and Legal Studies in the Culverhouse College of Business at the University of Alabama. His research interests include nonparametric econometrics and statistics, panel data econometrics, applied microeconometrics, economics of education.
Professor Henderson visited the University of Passau in December 2022 for initial discussions with his hosts, Professor Dr. Harry Haupt (Chair of Statistics and Data Analytics) and Dr. Joachim Schnurbus (Computational Statistics and Mathematics Teaching Unit), and returned to the University of Passau in June 2023 for his two-month research stay.
By means of the PICAIS-scholarship he conducted research on “Dynamic nonparametric multidimensional panel data models with application to migration flows across Europe”. The specific goal of the project was to model migration flows into Europe, but emphasizing a model that did not restrict the relationship between migration flows and other economic, political, and environmental factors and at the same time considered past flows between nations. At the end of his stay, Daniel J. Henderson presented his research progress on dynamic nonparametric multidimensional panel data models during a public research colloquium.

Daniel J. Henderson has numerous publications to his credit in prestigious journals. Notably, his work has been cited not only within economics but also across a diverse range of disciplines. He presented in numerous conferences, seminars, and workshops. In addition to his research endeavors, Professor Henderson actively engages in academic supervision and teaching.
He has been appointed as a European Science Foundation Expert, serving in the College of Expert Reviewers for Science Connect. Furthermore, he holds memberships at various universities in Asia and Europe, contributing to international research collaborations. Since 2008 he has been a research fellow at IZA in Bonn.
