Following a research stay of almost two months, PICAIS bids farewell to Prof. Dr. Camilo Peña-Ramírez, Associate Professor and Head of the Department of Industrial Engineering and Organizational Management at Universidad de Playa Ancha (Chile). During his stay, he was hosted by CENTOURIS – Applied Research in Tourism, where he collaborated with his host, Dr. Stefan Mang, on research addressing the digital transformation of the tourism sector.
At the heart of his research project, “Digital Innovation Platforms for Smart Tourism Destinations: Advancing Sustainability, Governance, and Inclusive Participation in Latin America,” was the question of how digital platforms can support the sustainable, inclusive, and resilient development of tourism destinations. Drawing on case studies from Valparaíso (Chile) and Rio de Janeiro (Brazil), Prof. Peña-Ramírez examined how digital solutions can foster collaboration among local stakeholders, strengthen governance structures, and promote sustainable tourism strategies.
The research stay provided an excellent opportunity for intensive academic exchange with the researchers at CENTOURIS and the University of Passau, and laid the foundation for continued collaboration. Planned outcomes include joint scientific publications and further research on digital innovation platforms for tourism destinations.
With the conclusion of his research stay, Prof. Dr. Camilo Peña-Ramírez's PICAIS Fellowship also comes to an end. We look forward to continuing our academic exchange and wish him every success in his future research projects and collaborations.
